Illinois Central

We woke up in Memphis and my mind went to the old Chattanooga Choo Choo train song. We did indeed have breakfast in Tennessee, southern fried chicken on a biscuit, strawberries on the side and coffee (tea for Lydia of course).

The night before we had waited for the rain for several hours in the first- class Metropolitan lounge because we had a room on the train, one of the many benefits of getting a place to sleep. We rode a red cap cart to our car because of my walking difficulty and were the first on board. It was 8:00 pm and past supper time but, a light dinner of sandwiches had had been prepared for us. There was only one waiter and many of the travelers acted as though they should be receiving full service even though the meal was over and above what was required. Unappreciative dolts. We were not seated with any others and it was just as well. We find it hard to deal with that sense of entitlement.

Our room was made up when we returned from the dining car. Lyd climbed up, I climbed down and we rocked and bounced to sleep.

We are now entering Yazoo City, Mississippi.
