The Road
Traveling
As I’ve gotten older I’ve become more contemplative and reflective about my life and my surroundings. That said, I’ve always been a writer in one way or another, poetry, journals, and letters. Other than the letters, I rarely share my writing. That being said, my wife, Lydia, and I have begun traveling the country a little at a time. Our biggest journey to date was a trip covering Hwy 20 from one end, Newport, Oregon, to the other end in Boston, Massachusetts. During that trip I posted daily notes and reflections about our experiences on a blog, which I later let expire. Two other major trips followed, one via train to Colorado and back and one touring a portion of the South-west. I wrote about those trips on Facebook, but now feel that I want a more private venue to share my thoughts.
Since posting this, we made another trip to the Southwest to view Spring baseball, specifically to watch the Cleveland Indians, a team I have followed since I was old enough to play Little League. (I have a baseball card of Rocky Colavito inside my ball cap, but more about this another time.) We toured New Mexico and Arizona, were snowed in twice, crunched the side of the RV displacing the generator, endured a sand storm of depression era Oklahoma intensity, and generally had a great time.
We are leaving in a few weeks for a cross country train trip with stops at major cities along the way. We will take the Empire Builder, the City of New Orleans, the Crescent, the Vermonter, and the Lake Shore Limited. We love our home, but we also love to travel, which is why we bought the RV (Atticus). Now when we travel we take a bit of home with us when we go.
